    High School Placement Test

Taking the High School Placement Test (HSPT) is required for all 8th grade students who wish to attend Gabriel Richard Catholic High School.  Test results are used to assist with admissions, scholarship selection and curriculum placement.

Students may preregister and pay online through Scholastic Testing Service (STS).  Dates in which the test is offered at Gabriel Richard are listed below.

2019-2020 test dates at Gabriel Richard:

    Saturday, November 23, 2019 at 8 a.m.*

Saturday, December 7, 2019 at 8 a.m.*  (accommodations offered on this date)

    * Online registration for these dates begins on September 15, 2019.  Registration for February and March dates will open in January 2020.

Please note:  The last three test dates are scheduled to accommodate students who miss the November test date.  Students who wish to be considered for a merit scholarship based on their HSPT score must take the test on the November or December date.  Students may not retake the HSPT.  Students who have a documented and supported IEP, 504 or accommodation plan may be eligible to receive testing accommodations for the HSPT on the December date. Please contact the director of admissions for more information.

    HSPT Registration:

Registration for the HSPT through the STS site is quick, convenient and easy.  Please click on the link provided and select Gabriel Richard Catholic High School (Riverview) for test site.  Walk-ins will be accepted on the day of the test; however, registration is highly encouraged.  The test fee is $50.

What to bring on the day of the test:

    • Two sharpened #2 pencils with erasers

    • Small snack

    • Cash or check payable to Gabriel Richard Catholic High School (walk-ins only; those who register in advance will pay online).

What not to bring on the day of the test:

    • Calculators

    Test-taking tips:

    • Get plenty of rest on the night before the test.

    • Eat a nourishing breakfast.

    • Time limits are set for each subtest.  Pace yourself and give yourself enough time so you will not be rushed.

    • Read each question carefully.

    • Answer every question.  If you are unsure, take your best guess.  There is no penalty for answering a question incorrectly.  Your score is determined by how many correct responses you make.

    • There will be a short stand-up break in the testing room.  Take advantage of this time to stand up, stretch and have a light snack.
